A cheque for 100,000 euro was presented to the Irish Cancer Society (ICS) from the Innishannon Steam and Vintage Rally at a well attended function in the Innishannon House Hotel, on the 4th of January 2013. The proceeds were from the hugely successful 15th Innishannon Steam and Vintage Rally held over the 2012 June bank holiday weekend. Over the past 15 years, the rally has raised over 1,064,000 euro for the ICS. The Rally is now aiming to break the 2 million mark in the coming years as the rally gets bigger and with larger fund raising.
The presentation was made on behalf of the committee by Frances O'Sullivan (Chairperson), Mrs Forrest (Wife of the late John Forrest), PJ Ryan and Jim Finn (Treasurers) to John McCormack CEO of the Irish Cancer Society. John McCormack expressed grateful thanks on behalf of ICS. During the presentation John McCormack outlined how the funds are allocated to the Munster region and how important these types of fund raisings are important to ICS and the people affected by Cancer.
Finbarr O'Donovan (ex-chairman of the rally and MC for the event) thanked everyone who was involved in the rally and the support from the local community in running a very successful rally. He also thanked the Gardai, Red Cross, County Council, the media and volunteers for their time and energy in assisting the rally.
A presentation was made to the wife of the late John Forrest, who was chairman of the 2012 rally. He worked tirelessly and gave a lot of his time to the rally and other charities throughout Cork. He will be sadly missed by all associated with the rally. A minute silence was held during the social event.
A number of other presentations were made on the night to Frances O'Sullivan (Chairperson), John Kelleher (Chief ticket seller) and to the main ticket sellers.
A major aspect of the fund-raising was a raffle organised by John Kelleher in advance of the rally by a dedicated team of collectors. Gate receipts were also important as of course was the generous contribution of major sponsor Flor Griffin Electrical and other supporters. To-date the ticket sales which is so well supported by the public have collected 564,000 euro over the last 8 years.
Next year's rally takes place on the 2nd and 3th of June 2013.
